Iberian Neolithic: Petroglyphs

A route in the coast monts of St. Mary of Oia (Pontevedra, Spain) shows typical neolithic Galician petroglyphs carved in stone. These anciant tribes lived in a chain of fortress in the top of the monts 3.500 years ago to keep the coast.

Avebury, stone circle and megalithic sanctuary  (UK)

By E.V.Pita (2013)

In the 1930s, the pretty village of Avebury, partially encompassed by the stone circle of this World Heritage Site, was witness to the excavations of archaeologist Alexander Keiller. Keiller opened the museum here to display his findings in 1938 in the old stable building of Avebury Manor where he lived.
In re-erecting many of the stones, Keiller uncovered the true wonder of one of the most important megalithic monuments in Europe.

a Irlanda?

GO SLOW BUT WORKS AND LOOKS THE SKELETON OF INTERPRETATION CENTRE FUTURE MEGALITHIC SANCTUARY MOST FAMOUS WORLD , A MUSEUM THAT ALREADY HAS DOMBATE

Author : E.V.Pita

London Bus leaves the motorway to Salisbury and suddenly a mound in the middle of nowhere bursts into the landscape. It is clearly human work , a megalithic tomb has been there 5,000 years. Entering Salisbury , travelers on the horizon distinguishes an artificial mountain, this time equipped with gigantic circular moat. Is Old Sarum , an ancient fortress of the Iron Age reminiscent movies Conan the Barbarian or The Lord of the Rings. But the star is 17 miles from Salisbury, which projects a cromlech on a hill overlooking the plain . It is the circle of blue stones of Stonehenge.
The mystery is still alive , no one knows if it was an astronomical observatory , a sanctuary for parties in the summer solstice to pray for a successful harvest or place medicinalcon cemetery. The ancients were so ingenious that carved holes in the lintels slabs to that fitted with the projections of the pillars . Now there ravens perch . The funny thing is that the site of Stonehenge is a World Heritage Site, has a large gift shop but no museum.
The latest findings justify the initiation of an interpretation center at Stonehenge.
15 years ago it was not excavated circular pit ( similar to Dombate ) surrounding the monument. So visitors almost touched the pillars a day of rain and fog . There are more new features like the trail of a wooden walkway leading to the temple . The cemetery is not visible but in fact is plain sauteed mound .
The situation will change for the temple has joined Dombate modernization that followed .
But not to the point of covering the grave. The most famous double stone circle in the world have a great interpretive center to be built at the entrance to the enclosure. The works are late but you can see the skeleton and cover. Evidence of the need for a museum are the big questions it generates. How they moved the blocks of sandstone from the Preseli mountains of Wales , 400 kilometers , compared
to Ireland? Anyone who has visited the museum Dolmen Dombate can imagine the length of such stones and answer another question : How is it possible that the blocks of Stonehenge remain standing after 4500 years despite wind or human action ?
The Galician mámoa gives a quick architectural response to the secret that hides the ancient English monument under its soil . Salisbury buses depart every hour. The visit to Stonehenge is to surround the pit and stones , separated by a rope. It is easy to see the shadow and sun position if the sunset is aligned with the arcs of the circle. A self-guided sentence gives more clues : there were 12 arches, as the constellations ?
Every hour, about 300 tourists from London, one glued to the phone and the other self-guiding before traveling to Bath Spa . And geeks cave age are set to blow the horn . These plains still have more secrets. A 40 minute bus ride from Salisbury, is a circle of 50 to 100 menhirs ( one per week) nestled amidst the village of Avebury . There perhaps observed the phases of the moon 5000 years ago.
